Freezin’ for Food Golf Outing Raises $7,500 to Fight Hunger in Clinton

Valley Oaks Golf Course was buzzing with energy and generosity as the annual Freezin’ for Food Golf Outing teed off with a mission: to raise funds for Information Referral and Assistance Services (IRAS) and help combat food insecurity in the Clinton area. Presented by Citizens First Bank and coordinated by Chris Streets in partnership with Mac 94.7 FM, this year’s event was a resounding success—both on the scorecard and in the hearts of the community.

With 112 golfers forming 28 spirited teams, the outing blended friendly competition with a powerful cause. From seasoned players to enthusiastic newcomers, everyone came together for a day of camaraderie, and charitable giving. And while the fairways saw plenty of impressive drives and putts, one of the most talked-about highlights wasn’t exactly PGA-sanctioned: the grenade launcher fundraiser.

Yes, you read that right. Golfers had the chance to “launch” their ball down the fairway using hand-thrown grenades—an unconventional twist that added a burst of fun and flair to the day. While it may not be regulation play, it certainly brought smiles and boosted donations. The grenade gimmick proved to be one of the outing’s biggest fundraisers, showing that a little creativity can go a long way in rallying support.

In total, the event raised approximately $7,500 through a combination of entry fees, cash donations, and proceeds from a silent auction. Every dollar collected will go directly to Information, Referral & Assistance Services (IRAS), a local organization dedicated to providing resources to those in need. Their work is vital in ensuring that families in Clinton don’t have to choose between putting food on the table and other necessities.

“The real winner today is our community,” said Chris Streets, reflecting on the day’s impact. “We had a blast out here, but more importantly, we came together to support a cause that touches so many lives. That’s what Freezin’ for Food is all about.”

Citizens First Bank’s sponsorship helped make the event possible, and Valley Oaks provided the perfect backdrop for a day of sunshine, swings, and service.

This year’s outing was more than just a golf tournament—it was a community celebration of giving. With $7,500 heading to IRAS, the event has made a meaningful contribution to the fight against hunger in Clinton. Here’s to another successful year of Freezin’ for Food, and to the many hands—on and off the course—that made it happen. Whether you swung a club, launched a grenade, or simply showed up to support, your impact will be felt far beyond the fairway.
